Phillip Gordon: Croatia is a true leader in the region

US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Philip Gordon has spoken about Croatia's role in the region at the 2012 Croatia Summit which concluded in the southern Dalmatian city of Dubrovnik on the weekend, reported website Tportal.

"Croatia is a true leader in the region, and I hope it will keep on strengthening the rule of law and continue the fight against corruption," said Gordon at a panel discussion on the prospect of EU membership as a driving force for social and political change.

Gordon also talked about the importance of investment into Croatia and urged the authorities to encourage investment. In his role as US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Gordon said that the US would keep working on the European integration of the entire region.

Croatia Summit, saw prime ministers, ministers and other officals from Europe, the US, NATO and other organisations gather for the two-day summit in Dubrovnik.
