Minister looking to EU to help build Peljesac bridge

Croatian Times

Croatia's Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure Sinisa Hajdas Doncic, has not ruled out the building of a bridge to connect the Peljesac peninsular to the mainland.

"If we get the support from Brussels, we do not rule out building a cheaper Peljesac bridge," said Doncic in a conversation with Globus magazine, adding that the government is in negotiations with representatives from the European Commission about ways to connect the Croatian territory.

Doncic says that the bridge would not be able to be built without financing from the EU of around 50 to 75 per cent.

The Croatian government terminated an initial contract to construct the Peljesac Bridge, that was to connect the southern Dalmatian peninsula of Peljesac with the mainland, in May due to financial reasons.
