60 per cent of Croats do no exercise

As many as 60 per cent of adult Croatians do not do any exercise at all, exposing themselves to health risks, as research shows that not doing any physical activity is just as harmful as smoking, reports website dnevnik.hr.
The stepper, treadmill or bicycle is unknown to almost every second Croat. Out of the Croats who do exercise, only 6 out of 100 do it in sufficient quantities, the rest usually quit after a short while.
"Most often people quit after one month, with a lack of motivation the main reason," says fitness instructor Filip Paljevec.
60 per cent of Croats who do not exercise mainly eat unhealthy also. Fruit and vegetables often lose the battle against fast and unhealthy food.
"Given the current variety of options of salad bars, sandwich bars and a high-quality supply of bakeries, there is really no reason to eat irregularly and unhealthy because the options are limitless," said nutritionist Karmen Matkovic.
