Croatia bakes in hottest day of the year

Extreme heat and humid weather has hit Croatia with the nations meteorologists announcing that yesterday (Mon) was the hottest day of the year. As early as 5am the temperature in the Dalmatian cities of Split and Dubrovnik and the town of Sibenik was as high as 29 degrees, writes daily newspaper Jutarnji list.

In Makarska (Split-Dalmatia County), Mali Losinj (Primorje-Gorski Kotar County) and in Komiza on the Dalmatian island of Vis, temperatures were recorded at 28 degrees at 5am, whilst in Rijeka and Zadar temperatures measured 26 degrees. Temperatures reached as high as 39 degrees in the shade in the Slavonija region.

The meteorological office has again issued warnings to the citizens of Croatia and have advised people to avoid going out from 10 to 17 hours, to drink plenty of fluids and avoid strenuous physical work.
