Crikvenica

Croatian coastal town celebrates 600 years since name was first mentioned

Croatian Times

The town of Crikvenica, located on Croatia's Adriatic coast, has celebrated the 600 year anniversary since the town's name was first mentioned in an official document, reports daily newspaper Novi list.

Way back on 14 August 1412, Crikvenica, a former fishing town and now popular summer holiday spot, was mentioned in an official document.

"Remembering this date means taking a look back at the history, but also an incentive to take step forward for a town that has so much potential. We have tourism and large and small businesses, we now need to look for ways to complement that and plan for the further development of Crikvenica," said Mayor Damir Rukavina.

A festival in the town's port was held to celebrate the 600th anniversary of the name Crikvenica, which was derived from the word church as 'crkva' in Croatian means church, first being officially mentioned.
