Croatian Parliament President off to US for treatment

Croatia's Parliament President Boris Sprem, has flown out to the United States on Thursday for treatment for multiple myeloma, a cancer of plasma cells. Doctors suggested that Sprem continue his treatment in America, where there are better possiblities for treatment for his illness, writes daily newspaper Jutarnji list.
Sprem will be treated at the best American medical centre for malignant blood diseases, with costs being covered by the Croatian Health Insurance Institute.
"This type of treatment can not be carried out in the Croatia because of his age, condition, type and rarity of the disease and treatment options. For these reasons the medical team recommended that he go to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, which is the world's leading center for the treatment of multiple myeloma," said a statement from the Office of the President of the Croatian Parliament.
