Croatian schools to introduce health education for the first time

From the start of the new school year this autumn, primary and secondary schools in Croatia will experiment for the first time with the introduction of Health Education, with its themes being integrated into existing school subjects. There will also be additional lessons during communal grade classes, it was announced at Monday's presentation of the proposal for health education curriculum at the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports.
"Health education is the way to a healthy future for all of us, without it there will not be a healthy Croatia," said minister Zeljko Jovanovic, adding that it will enable young people to acquire knowledge and skills, values and attitudes for a better and longer life.
According to the minister, health education will contribute to the prevention of diseases related to diet and obesity, substance abuse, sexually transmitted diseases, unplanned pregnancies, violence, and, among other things, protect mental and reproductive health, reported RTL television.
