First person infected with Western Nile virus in Croatia

This is the first person in Croatia to be infected with the deadly Western Nile virus.

The 65-year-old was hospitalized in the eastern town of Slavonski Brod after catching the disease while on a trip to the northern Serbian province of Vojvodina, where several cases have already been reported.

Earlier this month several people in Serbia died after catching the disease.

And earlier this week, six horses in Croatia were found to have contracted it.

But doctors say the 65-year-old, who hasn’t been named, is not in any danger and his symptoms are not life-threatening.

Western Nile virus is a mosquito-borne virus and normally found in tropical countries.
