Goran Hadzic to stand trial for war crimes in eastern Croatia

Suspected war criminal Goran Hadzic goes on trial Tuesday accused of atrocities committed during Croatia’s War of Independence.
The former president of the self-proclaimed Republic of Serbian Krajina is alleged to have tortured, abused and murdered prisoners of war as well as 264 patients in Vukovar hospital.
He also faces charges when he appears at the International War Crimes Tribunal in the Hague of forcibly deporting tens of thousands of Croats and other non-Serb civilians from Croatian territory between June 1991 and December 1993.
Hadzic who was captured on July 20 this year, is the Tribunal’s last wanted war criminal.
