Slovenia gives green light for Croatia's EU acession

Slovenia will ratify Croatia’s entry into the EU, the country’s head of state Borut Pahor has said.

The announcement comes following a meeting between Pahor and the country’s other leaders in the capital Ljubljana.

Speaking to the press, Pahor said he had managed to persuade all seven parliamentary parties "to agree to try to ratify Croatia’s accession treaty in good time."

There had earlier been fears that Slovenia would block Croatia’s accession because of a row dating back to 1990 over sharing out the assets of Slovenian bank Ljubljanska Banka.
