"Casanovafest," the first Croatian festival of love and eroticism, is being held from 2 to 4 July in Vrsar near Pula.
The festival celebrates the historical connection between Casanova, whom some consider to have been the world's greatest lover, and Vrsar.
Casanova visited Vrsar twice, in 1734 and 1744, and wrote in his memoirs he was impressed by its excellent food, drink and beautiful women.
The three-day festival features art and events about love and eroticism, such as literary evenings, film screenings and parties.
The opening lecture was given by psychologist Aleksandra Mindoljevic-Drakulic, who talked about the difference between eroticism and pornography.
The main part of the festival programme is being held on Montraker peninsula, which a special tourist train is taking people to.
The Vrsar tourism board organised the festival.
