Croat Martina Filjak wins Cleveland International Piano Competition

Croat Martina Filjak won first place at the 2009 Cleveland International Piano Competition held from 28 July to 9 August.
Filjak, 30, is the fifth woman to have won the competition.
Canadian piano player of Ukrainian origin Dmitrij Levkovic, 30, was second, and South Korean William Youn, 26, was third.
The first two rounds featured solo performances by 34 contestants from 14 countries, and the semi-finals, which featured solo performances by eight contestants, was webcast live from The Cleveland Playhouse.
Filjak is a Croatian piano player who belongs to the new generation. She was educated in Austria, Germany and Netherlands, as well as in Croatia.
She has received numerous musical awards in Croatia and abroad.
