Croatian sculptor’s work sold in London

Croatian Times

A drawing by Croatian sculptor Ivan Mestrovic has been sold for 8,750 GBP at auction in London.

"Pietà" – drawn using pencil and charcoal on paper – was sold as part of an auction of 100 works of 19th and 20th century European sculpture, it was announced yesterday (Thurs).

Ivan Mestrovic (1883-1962) is widely seen as one of the most important sculptors of religious subject matter since the Renaissance and the first living person to have a one man show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

He was born in Vrpolje near Slavonski Brod and died in South Bend, USA.
