Split ensemble "Jedinstvo“ celebrates 90th anniversary

The Split folk-dance ensemble "Jedinstvo" (Unity) will celebrate its 90 years of activity with a gala concert at Spaladium Arena indoor hall in Split today (Fri).

Jedinstvo, formed in 1919, is one of the oldest and most-awarded folk-dance ensembles in Croatia.

The ensemble has been awarded for its work with the emblem of the city of Split, the Split – Dalmatia County award and the Bull of the President of Republic of Croatia.

The ensemble has 400 members, divided into a dance ensemble, a mixed folklore choir, a mandolin and tambura orchestra, a school of dance, mandolin and guitar and a veterans’ club. The ensemble’s choreographers include distinguished experts on Croatian folklore.

Over the past decades, "Jedinstvo" has received awards at the world's greatest folklore shows and festivals.

It won silver at the 2009 International Festival of Folklore held from 24 to 30 August in Dijon, France.

The dances are performed in authentic national costumes that Split audience will be able to see at 8:30pm this evening.
