Croatian artists promote traditional handicrafts in New York

Croatian Times

The "Croatian art&craft Expo 2" exhibition was held from 13 to 23 February at MC Gallery in New York.

The ten-day event that promoted Croatian arts and crafts featured four exhibitions of fine art that gives a modern dimension to traditional crafts with an emphasis on the role of traditional handicrafts in modern artistic expression.

The program included an exhibition of Croatian applied arts, an ethnic fashion display – an exhibition of unique fashion inspired by Croatian tradition, an exhibition of unique Croatian jewellery and ornaments made of natural and precious metals, a solo exhibition by sculptor and ceramics artist Margareta Krstic from Rijeka and a painting exhibition by Split painters Suzana Stimac and Vendi Borovic.

Project director Frane Ribarovic announced that "CROATIAN art&craft EXPO 3" would occur in June 2010.

Also, as a result of good cooperation with American partners, it is expected that Pro Artia Institute, a non-profit Croatian – American association, will be founded in 2010 in New York. The institution’s aim will be to encourage and promote Croatian culture.

Ribarovic hopes "CROATIAN art&craft EXPO" will become a traditional event held many times a year.
