A stork in love gives up flying to Africa
A stork named Rodan started flying to Africa as other storks do at this season, but three days later he returned to the area around the eastern Croatian town of Slavonski Brod as he was in love with injured stork Malena, which has not flown south for years.
Stjepan Vokic, who has cared for injured Malena for years, has told Croatian daily Jutarnji List that he cried when he saw Rodan returning to his love instead of flying to Africa as other storks had.
Malena and Rodan raised three little storks this season, and the young ones flew to Africa.
"There may be a number of reasons for Rodan’s return, and one of them may be that he has fallen in love", Marko Milec, the owner of the nearby zoo, commented.
Malena and Rodan live on the roof of Vokic's house, and he helps Malena with food as she can't fly very well.
