Serb kids picking up Croatian from cartoons

Serbian parents are up in arms over the growing number of cartoons dubbed into Croatian, say Serb press reports.
According to the reports almost 90 percent of cartoons in DVD stores are dubbed into Croat resulting in Serbian children picking up Croatian words and phrases.
Djordje Popovic was said to have been "shocked" when his son started calling him "tatek" – a perfectly appropriate way to address one’s father, but in Croatian.
"I almost fainted," Popovic said. And while he does not consider himself a nationalist, Popovic believes children should grow up with their mother tongue, the daily Jutarnji List writes.
Aleksandar Popovic, marketing director of Pro Vision distributor explained: "All of the cartoons that we distribute we dub exclusively into Serbian language. Unfortunately there are two or three Croatian distributors with branches in Serbia who dub in a "lighter" version of Croatian and then distribute them to the Serbian market."
