The World Press Photo exhibition will be held in the Dalmatian city of Split on 23 June with more than 160 awarded photographs from around 100,000 photos which were vying for awards in nine categories, reports daily newspaper Slobodna Dalmacija.
President of the Split Foto Club, Fedja Klaric, said at the press conference that Split was the only Croatian city to host this important exhibition and thanked the city for its support.
Among the exhibited photographs will be that of grand prize winner Samuel Aranda.
"The Grand Prize went to Spaniard Samuel Aranda, who like the biblical theme of "Pieta" photgraphed a mother holding her son who was hit by tear gas during the fighting in Yemen in the Arabian spring. Objections to such images, saying they are hypocritical, because they use someone else's misfortune, are exaggerated. They talk about the reality of the world and attracts attention to the facts," said exhibition coordinator Valentino Bilic Prcic.
