After a 17-hour long drive from the Czech Republic, two young male giraffes arrived in Croatia late on Tuesday evening, becoming the only giraffes in Croatia, reports daily newspaper 24sata.
The two three and a half meter tall giraffes will be based at the Osijek Zoo in eastern Croatia. Edgar and Johan have cost Osijek zoo around 10,000 euros.
Edgar and Johan, who are only 15-months old, will be kept in a spacious enclosure - the inner part extending to 100 square meters, with a greater area of 2,800, and a smaller area of 1,100 square meters.
Osijek Zoo says that they had to purchase two male giraffes of this variety, as there were no females for sale anywhere. The zoo has promised that Edgar and Johan will get female company in the not too distant future.
