Hajduk coach to learn Portuguese

Hajduk Split football club coach Ante Mise has decided to learn Portuguese in order to communicate better with Brazilian players Rafael Paraiba and Thiaginho Santos.
Considering that the Brazilians will need some time in which to learn Croatian, Mise has decided to learn at least the basics of Portuguese.
He said: "So far I have learned "passo corto, passo longo, fica con bola" ( pass the ball, ask for the ball, run onto the field).
It is not unusual for a coach to have problems in communicating with foreign players, but it is unusual for a coach to learn the language of his players.
Mise also gave the two Brazilians the nicknames Rafo and Thiago, the daily Slobodna Dalmacija has reported.
Mise said: "Rafo sounds more domestic, and Thiago is much easier for communication, since it takes too much time if I pronounce their real names on the field and each second is worth a lot. We will need some time, but I am an optimist. They are very fast, and I believe in them."
