Zlatko Kranjcar is new Persepolis Teheran head coach

Croatian Times

Former Croatian national football team coach Zlatko Kranjcar, who was one of the best coaches at Dinamo Zagreb, is new Persepolis Teheran head coach.

The Iranian football club made the announcement today (Weds).

Persepolis had been searching for a coach since Nelo Vingada’s departure in May.

The deal was agreed to thanks to Iranian Khashayar Mohseni, the chairman of Slovak club Dunajská Streda, the Index website has reported. Dunajská Streda was Kranjcar’s last club.

Mohseni released Kranjcar from all obligations to the Slovak club and recommended him to the Iranian club. Kranjcar may earn as much as 450,000 US dollars a year.

Persepolis has been led twice by Croats, in the 2003/2004 season by Vinko Begic and from 1994 to 1997 by Stanko Poklepovic.

The job at Persepolis will be the 18th football-related position Kranjcar has had in his career. It is expected he will join the club tomorrow.

Last Sunday, Kranjcar joined celebrations at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium where Austrian Bundesliga club Rapid Vienna played Liverpool FC in a exhibition match to mark the Viennese club’s 110th anniversary (1-0).
