Eduardo suspended for two matches for penalty dive

Croatian Times

UEFA has suspended Arsenal and Croatian national-team striker Eduardo da Silva for two Champions League games.

The reason is his "deception of the referee" in a UEFA Champions League play-off second- leg match on 26 August against Celtic.

UEFA claims Eduardo deceived the referee with a penalty "dive" against Celtic. The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body examined the case and suspended the player.

Eduardo and Arsenal may appeal the decision. Eduardo refused to comment about it. The Club announced on its web site they had been disappointed by UEFAs decision to suspend Eduardo for two Champions League matches.

They said they were deeply frustrated by, as they said, "the perfunctory and apparently arbitrary process" that UEFA followed in the case.

They added: "We believe it is imperative that UEFAs explanation for its decision provide clear and comprehensive standards that will be consistently enforced. We have been informed that we will receive a reasoned decision" from UEFA by Thursday of this week. Once we receive UEFAs rationale, we will make a decision about our next steps."

Eduardo will miss games with Standard Liege on 16 September and Olympiacos on 29 September.
