Goalkeeper gets a yellow card for saving cat

Croatian Times

Animal-loving goalkeeper Ivan Banovic was almost sent off in a Premiership game when he saved a stray cat from getting hurt during the match.

The Medjimurje FC keeper had spotted the cat wandering onto the pitch during the game with Sibenik FC on Saturday and ran over to it, picked it up and carried it off the pitch to safety.

But when he went back to the goal furious ref Marko Matoc gave him a yellow card for leaving the pitch without his permission.

Shocked Matoc went on to see his side lose 0-1 to Sibenik  – but their fans spent the match cheering him on for saving the cat.
