After 11 months, injured Croatian table-tennis player Sandra Paovic has returned home to Croatia from Nottwil clinic in Luzern, Switzerland.
Paovic suffered a severe cervical-spinal injury in a traffic accident near Paris on 30 January.
She was welcomed by numerous family members, friends, sports colleagues and Croatian Table Tennis Federation officials at Zagreb airport on Saturday.
Paovic, 26, thanked Croatian residents who had raised money through humanitarian actions for her rehabilitation and given her emotional support.
She said: "This was really the hardest year of my life, and I sometimes thought I would never be able to return to Croatia. My recovery is going well, and I am looking forward to the future."
Paovic will spent Christmas at her parents’ home in Vukovar in eastern Croatia and then return to Switzerland.
