The bond between New Zealand's indigenous, the Maori, and the Croatian stretches back over 150 years when the Croatian's first came to New Zealand and settled in the gum field regions in the far north of the country.
The two cultures worked, lived and socialised side by side, fostering a great friendship which is still strong today. That will all be put aside , at least for 3 hours, when the two square off in an inaugural cricket match to be played in the city of Hamilton in New Zealand.
The New Zealand Croatian Cricket team will play the Maori team in a Twenty20 cricket match at Seddon Park in Hamilton on 22 March. The match, a first between the two sides, will feature many talented Croatian and Maori cricketers currently making an impact on the New Zealand cricket scene and organisers are hoping it turns into an annual event.
