Croatian football coach Vjeran Simunic has been named coach of the year in Singapore's S-League.
He told local media the award made him feel vindicated after some questioned his decision to quit Vietnamese club Ho Chi Minh City to take over the reins at DPMM, where he was head coach in 2009.
"When I did that, a lot of people said I was crazy," he said.
"Why would someone leave a good team, with good money, in a strong football country in South-east Asia, to go to Brunei? But I showed them.
"Same thing in Brunei. I said I would make DPMM one of the top teams in the S-League, they said I was crazy.
"But see where we are now."
Simunic guided DPMM to the StarHub League Cup in August (they also won the trophy in 2009) and pushed Tampines Rovers all the way to the last day in the S-League title race, eventually finishing with a runners-up medal.
Simunic's next goal is to win the S-League title and please the crown prince of Brunei Al-Muhtadee Billah, who is also the chairman of DPMM.
